Cecil Smith, Police Chief
It is the mission of the Sanford Police Department to enhance
the quality of life in our city by working in partnership with
the community, within the framework of the constitution, to
enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear, and provide
a safe environment.
Estimated total calls for service were 150,225, which resulted
in a 10.14% increase from Fiscal Year 2016/2017 (136,395).
Estimated total Part I Crimes were 2,832 which resulted in a
05.60% decrease from Fiscal Year 2016/2017 (3,000).
Hired and trained 15 new officers and one civilian in Fiscal
Year 2017-2018. The Sanford Police Department Training/
Recruiting Unit facilitated two separate hiring processes in
Fiscal Year 2017-2018. Hiring was done in the months of
October, June, and March.
Investigated 1,687 cases.
Cleared 43% (on average) of the 312 cases assigned to the
Major Crimes Unit.
Investigated 119 City of Sanford Auto Theft Cases by
investigator assigned to City County Auto Theft Unit.
Investigators arrested six suspects on homicide related
charges, and nine suspects on robbery charges.
Conducted regular Walk and Talks and implemented
Seminole Action Coalition, Kate’s Hope, and Cops Closet
serving our needy through community outreach.
Registered 47 new golf carts and conducted numerous golf
cart inspections.
Utilized data analysis to issue weekly strategic priorities
designed to address Part I crimes, and traffic crash
mitigation.
Hosted and participated in over 203 functions across the
city for family events, fundraisers, safety demonstrations,
