2019 IMPACT Report - Sarasota County, Florida

T his IMPACT Report is produced by the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller’s Office as a tool to help you understand how public funds are managed and spent. Most of the information in this report is derived from the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended on September 30, 2019. Every County in the State of Florida is required by law to issue a CAFR, which must be prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as required by Florida Statute 218.32. The CAFR is necessarily very complex. Therefore, the Clerk and Comptroller has prepared this summary financial publication. The IMPACT Report, because of its summary nature, does not conform to generally accepted accounting principles and does not conform to governmental reporting standards. This report also includes condensed and simplified information from the Sarasota County budget, and other financial reports. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has given an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting to Sarasota County, Florida for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2018. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports. In order to receive this award a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal. This award is valid for a period of one year only. We believe our current report continues to conform to the Popular Annual Financial Reporting requirements, and we are submitting it to the GFOA.
